Recently ran across this post envisioning robots designed to eat the decaying and abandoned suburbs of the future:

I think the trend of moving awa from larger homes will happen. As the other countries develop and consume resources it will raise the constrution material costs, then also as we develop and people are unwilling to drive forever to work, there is a limit for them, this happened in Houston, and also the US never kept up with housing demand, so the housing stock will continue to be over valued IMHO. So, I think population growth will raise land prices and global development will rais e the cost of materials.

Regarding eco friendly. Why did the hippy at my school say he wanted to tear out his tile floor and replace it with bamboo. I know about bamboo, but his floor is fine, he just wants the bamboo. But how is that green living?

I want one of these when I grow up:

Thanks for the support.
Stuart, I know what you mean. And thats why I think like this house so much. Always been a big fan of Mackintosh etc.
Trevor, I hardly ever get downtown these days but it will happen.
Stevo, feel free to send some domestic photos as examples (though I have already seen hundreds of great ones on your blog).

This is a great concept for a blog.

I've been working downtown in offices for the last three years or so and have often referred to the design style of Edmonton's core as "communist grey". Cheers on your idea.

This house definitely has "arts & crafts" or "craftsman" elements. Some people also call it the "bungalow" style, although that isn't very descriptive! Quite common in the early 20th century. The extra long rafter tails are a common feature. There is definitely an Asian school of arts and crafts too. Nice house!

Congrats on your new space. I look forward to reading your thoughts (and seeing the photos). That colorful house is a lot like my apartment. I painted the living room walls vivid yellow to counteract the institutional white so prevalent in China.
